Turkish bath - the pestemal

The Turkish bath was amazing. This one is in a health club in Oludeniz. Yes there are many tourists in this particular bath. and really I would have liked to have been somewhere a little more authentic. But having said that, the people who work there are great, and they give you first class service.

The ideal time to have your first Turkish bath on holiday is after two or three days in the sun. The dead skin cells are removed easily and your body is prepared perfectly for a lasting tan. Three months after my holiday I still have a great tan!

I changed out of my T shirt and shorts and donned the pestemal, which is a lightweight towel that you wrap around your waist. Many tourists don't bother with the pestemal and opt for wearing their swimsuits instead. I have no idea why people do this when the pestemal is so comfortable and is designed for the job. It gets very extremely wet, and yet you never have that "sitting around in a wet swimsuit" feeling. Have you noticed how young children often kick off their swimsuits when they come out of the the pool or the sea? It's because they don't like hanging around in wet clothes. Nor do the Turks, and so they created the pestemal. It's actually better than being totally nude, because the towel grips the the wet marble slabs and you don't slide off! men and women wear the pestemal. So next time you visit a Turkish bath, use the towel and leave your swimsuit behind.
